In US v. Wright, the Fourth Circuit affirms the defendant’s various drug convictions. In so doing, the Court engages in a helpful analysis of the defense of entrapment. Not necessarily helpful to Mr. Wright, or his attorney, Jonathan Mastrangelo (husband of our web designer Dominique Mastrangelo) but helpful in the more general I-just-want-to-learn context.
In US v. Carter, a published opinion, the Fourth Circuit vacates the sentence, finding that the 37 month downward departure was procedurally unreasonable. Specifically, the court holds that the District Court failed to offer an individualized assessment for the sentence.
