April 16, 2009: FBA Grand Jury Program
Just a reminder that the Grand Jury Program is scheduled for Thursday, April 16 at 2:30 in the Baltimore Federal Courthouse. The panelists and speakers include United States Attorney Rod Rosenstein, Assistant United States Attorneys Stuart Berman and Michael Leotta, and experienced criminal defense attorneys including Gregg Bernstein, Bob Bonsib, Bill Brennan, Max Lauten, Michael Schatzow, and Josh Treem. The topics will include, but are not limited to, the government’s use of the grand jury, including its classifications of individuals as target/subject/witness; the use of joint defense agreements; issues relating to proffer agreements and immunity (including “act of production” immunity for document subpoenas); the crime-fraud exception; preserving and producing electronic evidence; privilege issues including “claw-back;” motions to quash; and ways in which defense attorneys can monitor grand jury investigations. The event (which should be lively and interactive) will be followed by a reception with wine/beer and light fare.
The cost is $20 for members of the Federal Bar Association and $35 for non-members, payable at the door by check made out to the FBA-MD Chapter. To reserve a seat, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
